Evlyne Lauretta (Otto) Palmer
August 23, 1921-May 28, 2012
Evlyne Palmer, age 90, passed away May 28, 2012. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for 50 years.
Evlyne was born in Olean, New York to Fred and Kathryn (Hull) Otto (deceased). By age eleven, Evlyne was teaching dancing, designing costumes, and performing shows. She and brother Dana were adventurous sailors on Lake Chautauqua, New York. Evlyne competed in swimming, diving, played saxophone, sang with the choir, and was a cheerleader at Lakewood High School in New York. She was a creative and ahead of her times tailor, loved theatrical work, studied dancing in New York, directed and stared in productions in New York, Colorado and North Dakota. In Lakewood she taught water craft safety for the American Red Cross.
Evlyne married the love of her life, Chet Palmer, on May 29, 1941. She spent 28 years following him through his military career. Her favorite assignments were Germany and Oahu, Hawaii. Her golden years were spent tap dancing, performing shows with the Top Hat Strutters and Generation Journey in Colorado Springs. She loved her precious kitties and working in her garden. She cherished her sons-in-law for their loving support throughout her care. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.
She is survived by her loving brother, Dana Otto (Emma) of St. Mary, Florida; adored son, Chester Barrett Palmer of Aurora, Colorado; treasured and devoted daughters: Gayle Barry (Dave) of Fairfax, Virginia, Tamera Palmer-Rendon (Dieter) and Cherie Spaulding (Dirk) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her adoring grandchildren, David, Brandon, Brandy Lynn, Joshua, Sarah, Joseph and her precious Aurora Lily, who called great grandma “Gigi”; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chester George Palmer, in April 1989.
We shall miss you very much, Mumsie!
