Fikriye Green, a long-time resident of Colorado Springs, passed away in early morning of August 28, 2014. She was 77 years old. She is survived by her son, John W. Green, Jr.; and her daughter-in-law, Galit; and granddaughters, Eliyah and Shira. Fikriye was born to Yunis and Emime Yitut on May 5th, 1937 in Diyarbakir, Turkey; a small farming community in eastern Turkey. She migrated to Colorado Springs in July 1969 and within a year became an American citizen.
She was an entrepreneur and housewife whose compassion and generosity brought happiness, warmth and meaning to the lives that she touched. She dedicated her life to helping people, whether it was listening and providing guidance to one of life’s challenges or simply being a shoulder to cry on. Her dedication and willingness to help was her way of giving back to the world that had given her so much. She loved to cook, garden, walk, feed the squirrels, and spend time with family and friends. She was an amazing mother, wife and friend and we will say goodbye to her at the Interment Service at Evergreen Cemetery on Thursday September 4th at 10:00 am.
