Francis “Frankie” J. McCann, III, 71, passed away on December 2, 2016.
He was a resident of Colorado Springs and was formerly a resident of St. Petersburg, Florida. He was born in Framingham, Massachusetts to the late Francis J. McCann, Jr. and the late Eleanor McCann.
From a young age Frankie had always wanted to fly airplanes; he followed that dream and was able to receive his pilot’s license on his 16th birthday. Frankie attended Perdue University in the engineering program and was also a member of the track and field team where he excelled. He had a fondness for cars that started with his beloved 1966 yellow Corvette Stingray and enjoyed watching car racing. Frankie also served his country in the Vietnam War as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and was awarded several service medals. After his military service he drove mining trucks for Kaiser Aluminum in California.
Frankie is survived by his siblings: George McCann and his wife Kimberly, Robert McCann and his wife Candace, his nephew and niece: Justin and Melissa, and 6 great nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his sister, Ann Whitcher and his stepmother, Doris McCann.
A memorial service along with a funeral service for his father, Francis J. McCann, Jr., will be held at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910 on January 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Following services, private inurnment will take place at the Shrine of Remembrance, Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.
