Frieda Byrnes, 93, of Kennewick, Washington died on February 14th 2015. She was born in Hunern, Germany, March 26th 1922, to parents Andreas and Ida Drechsler. Frieda (Elfie) graduated from high school in Germany and was displaced from her home by the battles of World War II. Following the war, she worked as a secretary for the US military. She met and married Francis Byrnes in Germany in 1953. They traveled extensively with their 2 sons before settling in Colorado Springs, CO.
Elfie passionately enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, gardening, and playing bridge. She dedicated over 10,000 hours of volunteer work at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. She and her husband were charter members of Sunrise United Methodist Church, and belonged to Pikes Peak Neighbors.
Elfie was preceded in death by her 3 brothers, one sister, and her husband. She is survived by her 2 sons, Gordon Byrnes of Clifton, VA, Mark Byrnes of Richland, WA, and 7 grandchildren.
Elfie will undergo cremation in Kennewick, WA and will later be buried with her husband at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on April 25, 2015 at Sunrise United Methodist Church.
