Garland Turley, 85, died on February 2, 2024. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for 40 years.
Gary was born in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. His family moved to Arizona shortly thereafter. At age 17, he enlisted in the Army.
Barbara and Gary met in San Antonio, Texas in 1959, and married in September of that year.
His military tours of duty consisted of Korea, France, Germany, two tours in Italy, and two tours in Vietnam. There were also tours in Fort Ord, California; Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Fort Lee, Virginia; Fort Knox, Kentucky; Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; and Fort Carson, Colorado from which he retired in 1986.
His military honors include VN Service Medal, VN Cross of Gallantry, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oakleaf Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster.
Gary is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Allyson; sons: Patrick and Eric; grandson, Isaac; and daughter-in-law, Eleanor Emond.
Memorial Service will be held on February 12, 2024, at 2:00pm at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910.
