In Loving Memory
Gary Dean Johnson died peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 29, 2024, after a long battle with cancer.
Gary was welcomed at his heavenly homecoming by his son Jeff Johnson, daughter LeAnn (Johnson) Kaufman, mother Opal (Ullom) Sohn, stepfather Ed Sohn; and his father Wilbur Johnson.
Gary is survived by Teresa, his wife of 40 years; his daughters, Tanya Johnson of Colorado Springs, Courtney Johnson of Saginaw, Texas and Noelle (Josh) Oliver of Haslet, Texas. Gary loved spending time with his four grandchildren: Lainey, Eli, John Luke and Kaleb. Also surviving him are Gary’s brothers, Eugene and Eddie Johnson; and niece and nephews, Mandy (Jesse) Freeman, Shawn (Tracy) Johnson and Steven (Leigh) Johnson of Colorado Springs.
Gary owned and operated Gary’s Automotive on Knob Hill for many years. His first job was at Doenges-Long Ford as a shop boy when he was 16. Gary worked for Mr. Phil Long at Phil Long Ford. This started his lifelong passion with automobiles.
Gary was the heart behind Team 90; sponsoring, building, repairing and racing Fords, always believing he would be “First on Race Day!”
Gary was a big-hearted man who would do anything for a friend in need.
In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to Abode Hospice or Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Gary’s name.
