Gary, age 65, passed away on June 4, 2024.
He was a resident of Colorado Springs for 50 years and was formerly a resident of the world being the son of a career military family. He retired from Target.
Gary was born on March 17, 1959 to Vernon and Rosemary (Alig) Barnett in Topeka, Kansas.
Gary was an avid gardener and enjoyed travel. Hawaii was his favorite place. He was a member of the Catholic faith attending Holy Apostles Church. He was a graduate of Doherty High School and UCCS. He served in the US Air Force for 4 years in the 1980s.
Gary is survived by his brother, Michael, of Madison, Mississippi; his loving friend, Peter Polkiewicz; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Rosemary.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910. Interment will follow at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024 at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.
Memorials in Gary’s name may be made to the Colorado Springs Animal Shelter.
Gary was a very giving man, helping so many others and never asking anything in return. He had several favorite songs but the one that stands out is a song by both Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley called My Way. He indeed led life as “I did it My Way”.
