Gene Arnold Strasheim
November 24, 1940 – August 31, 2016
Gene Arnold Strasheim, age 75, passed away after a long illness on August 31st, 2016. He was a Certified Public Accountant and a Chief Financial Officer.
Gene was born on November 24, 1940, to Alex and Elizabeth Strasheim in Kimball, Nebraska. He was a star student in high school, lettering in football, basketball, and track as well as playing in the band and graduating with honors. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1963. In that same year, he married Betty Cathey. He then started a long and distinguished career as a CPA, working in Los Angeles, Denver, Colorado Springs, New York City and Pueblo. Gene’s work was also his hobby as he could always be found with a copy of The Wall Street Journal or following the latest Stock Reports. He served on many community boards including: Penrose-St. Francis Hospital, Colorado Springs Day Nursery, Peak Vista Community Health and as a Court Appointed Conservator. He loved playing handball and made life long friends through this pursuit. He co-founded the Behemoth Handball Tournament in 1989. Gene and Betty were avid Broncos fans and have held season tickets since 1968.
Gene is survived by his wife, Betty; and his three daughters: Beth Crumpton (Kevin), Amy Niswonger (Mike), and Jill Carlton (Dan). He has four beloved granddaughters: Bailey, Annaclaire, and Lily Crumpton, and Anaiah Niswonger.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on September 10th, 2016 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 East Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, Colorado. A reception will follow at The Country Club of Colorado at 125 Clubhouse Drive.
