Gene Bennett Martin passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2019 in Manitou Springs. Gene was born on March 9, 1934 in Burdick, Kansas, to Hila Bennett Martin and William Charles Martin. He was married on July 30, 1960, to Mary Joan Alexander. Gene and his wife moved to Manitou Springs in 1968 and he was an active member of the Catholic Church.
Gene graduated from Kansas State University as a mechanical engineer with high honors. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He worked on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, converting them from electric to natural gas. He also did consulting work in his retirement. Gene served as a 2nd lieutenant in the Army. He had his private pilot license. He loved history, skiing and camping.
Gene is survived by his wife, Mary; children: Jon Martin (Lanette), Richard Martin (Stephanie), and Anne-Marie Coffey (William); grandchildren: Kelsey Boulware (Mark), Corbin Coffey, Kendall Martin and Caroline Martin.
Services will be held on Wednesday, May 8 at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2318 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80907.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gene’s name to the Humane Society or the American Heart Association.
