Genevieve D. Sherpa
Our beloved mother, Genevieve D. Sherpa, 91, stepped from this life into eternity on April 14, 2017 in Greeley, Colorado. She was a resident of Colorado Springs since 1980 and was formerly a resident of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Jacksonville, Florida.
Genevieve was born on September 5, 1925 to James and Margaret (Waters) Magill in West Palm Beach, Florida. She married the love of her life, Leo Sherpa, on March 22, 1943 in Jacksonville, Florida.
She was a Eucharistic minister for more than 20 years alongside her husband, Deacon Leo “Lee” Sherpa, the first deacon in the Catholic Diocese of Colorado Springs. They worked with the mentally disabled and taught “Life in the Spirit” seminars for many years.
She is survived by her beautiful, loving family, including eight children: Irene Rylander, Leo Sherpa, Jr., Theresa Juhas, Debra Timm, Mary Sherpa, James Sherpa, David Sherpa, and Michael Sherpa; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Myrtle Robinson and Anne O’Quinn, both of Jacksonville, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Leo Sherpa, Sr.; two daughters, Nancy French and Catherine Hippensteel; and a brother, Pete Magill, Jr.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 4925 North Carefree Circle. Burial will take place at 9:15 a.m. at Staging Area C in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado.
