Georgia E. Gilkey, age 77, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1978, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at a local hospital after a long illness. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
Georgia Emily Miller was born on May 21, 1936 in Malone, New York to the late Clifford and Irene (Tallon) Miller. She was a graduate of Franklin Academy in Malone, New York. She married Gerald L. Gilkey on July 14, 1956 in Sanguine, Texas.
She was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner at Peterson Air Force Base Chapel where she was a very active in their ministries. She will be best remembered for her love of family, her kindness and generosity.
She is survived by her husband, SFC Gerald L. Gilkey, USA (Ret.) of Colorado Springs; her daughter: Diane Holt of Colorado Springs; her son: Gerald L. Gilkey, Jr. of Elizabeth, Colorado; six grandchildren: Monica Mazzeo, Charles Holt, Patrick (Lauren) Holt; Nicholas Mazzeo, Kevin (Ashlie) Holt and Bradley Gilkey.
Mrs. Gilkey has six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Georgia has two sisters: Faith (John) Dixon and Joan (Harold) Perry, both of Malone.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter: Cindy Mazzeo; two brothers: Jimmy Miller and Gary Miller.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00pm on Monday, November 11, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A rosary service will follow at 7:00 pm in the Chapel. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 pm on Tuesday at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Entombment will take place at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Garden of Angels. A reception will follow at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 S. Union Boulevard. Memorials in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1445 N. Union Boulevard, Suite 100, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
