Gerald E. “Jerry” Marshall
Jerry passed away February 5, 2014 after a lengthy brave battle with cancer. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for the last 42 years.
Jerry was born in La Junta, Colorado June 19, 1938 to Charles A. Marshall and Mary Elizabeth (Hanagan) Marshall. He married his High School sweetheart, Betty Jean Harmon, on June 26, 1957, in Holly, Colorado.
A native of Colorado, he was raised in Swink, moved to Holly his freshman year of high school where he graduated in 1956. His schooling continued on at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden. In high school he was on the basketball and football teams. He played football for the School of Mines, and remained a dedicated sports fan especially supporting the Miners Football team. He later enjoyed playing golf, farming, ranching, and traveling.
Jerry’s career began in 1960 with CF&I Steel as an Industrial Engineer, and 39 years later in 1999 he retired from there as the General Sales Manager. He remained a dedicated employee during the many changes of the steel industry. After retirement, he enjoyed managing and working the Byron T. Hanagan Farms in Swink, and serving on the VEBA, CF&I Retirement Board.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Betty Jean; his three children: Scott A. (Jacqueline) Marshall, Jerri Ann Koerting, and Mary E. Sautter (Larry Van Vleet); four grandchildren: Chandra, Seth, Tyler, and Bobby; two great-grandchildren: Abigail, and Robby. He was preceded in death by his loving son, Kevin E. Marshall.
The family would like to have you help celebrate his life with a viewing on Monday, February 10, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary immediately following. Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 9 El Pomar Road, Colorado Springs. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Hillcrest and Valley View Cemetery in Rocky Ford.
The family extends their sincere thanks to Gentiva Hospice and Emeritus at Bear Creek for the special and loving care of Jerry. Also to all their friends and family that made these last few months a little more special for him.
