Gerald E. Smith was born December 8, 1937 in Calvert, Texas to Cleo A. and Floy B. Smith. He was the fourth out of five children.
The family moved to Colorado Springs in 1953 due to his father’s health, where he graduated from Colorado Springs High School (Palmer) in 1955.
After graduating from high school he joined the Navy and spent time on the USS Benner.
In 2000 he retired as a maintenance tech from Schlage Lock in Security.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jo Ann; two sons: Clifford W. and Andrew J. Smith, both of Colorado Springs; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Annette Brock of Lufkin, Texas.
His parents, two brothers, and one sister preceded him in death.
