Geraldine Simmons
Gerry Simmons, age 86, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1968 passed away on September 26, 2013 at The Bridge Assisted Living Center in Colorado Springs. She was an Air Force wife, and a homemaker.
Geraldine Thelma Champine was born on March 9, 1927 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to the late Hubert Champine and Agnes Miller. She was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Mt. Clemens. She met and married Willard Thurman Simmons, an Air Force officer, in Mt. Clemens and they were stationed throughout the United States and Europe, and finally retired in Colorado Springs in 1968. Willard passed away on July 25, 1982.
Gerry was instrumental in the birth of Holy Apostles Catholic Church in Colorado Springs and its founding. She was a woman of faith who was very active in Holy Apostles’ ministries for many years.
She is survived by her son, William Lee “Bill” (wife Debbie) Simmons of Colorado Springs; and her granddaughter, Cassandra Wright of San Jose, California. She is also survived by her brother, Hubert Champine; and her sister, Dolores Buckman, both of Mt. Clemens, Michigan.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. A reception will then be held at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 South Union Boulevard. Memorials in her name may be made to Holy Apostles Catholic Church.
