Gertrude E. Ness, 91, homemaker, died on Palm Sunday, March 20, 2016, at her home in Rush, Colorado.

The funeral and graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 24, at Ramah Cemetery in Ramah, Colorado. She will be laid to rest in the family plot, next to her beloved husband and Silver Star, Purple Heart veteran and also her mother Lulu Wood.

Mrs. Ness was born May 23, 1924, in Ramah to Lee Roy and Lulu Winters (Wood).

She was married Dec. 25, 1947, in Simla to Homer A. Ness. She is survived by three sons, Robert (Lita) of Colorado Springs; Richard (Thea) of Slidell, LA., and Roderick of Rush; a daughter, Marilyn Anderson (Kenneth) of Collbran; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Ness graduated from Ramah High School and taught school and music at Alta Vista School. She had a love for music, gardening, painting, and her family. She was a lifetime resident of the area, living in the Rush area for the past 70 years.

Since the passing of her beloved husband Homer, in 1996, she has been living with her son Roderick in Rush.

She has enjoyed picking flowers and strawberries from her garden and relished being praised for her beautiful flowers. She taught many local children how to sing and play the piano. One of her greatest joys was playing and spending time with her grandchildren whenever they would come to visit. Her favorite pastime was figuring out crossword puzzles.

She enjoyed the phone calls and visits from both her children and grand children. She enjoyed the simple joy of watching a sunrise while holding one of her many cats. She would capture the essences of a Colorado sunset in her many paintings.

Rest in Peace.
