Gisela Schmidt of Colorado Springs went home to be with the Lord on February 24, 2015, after a long battle with an incurable condition. Born in Breslau, Germany, to Adolph and Hildegard (Volkmer) Kuechler, she moved to the United States in 1951 with her husband George who preceded her in death.
She was the faithful mother of two children, Gloria McVaugh and Mike, and was immensely proud of them, her six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She and her family moved to Colorado in 1963 where she rekindled her love of skiing (which she then passed on to her grandchildren), swimming, the mountains, traveling, and teaching exercise classes. With her love for the outdoors, she opened new worlds to her family.
Mrs. Schmidt was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Eric, Berndt, and Franz.
In addition to her children, grand children, and great grand children, she is also survived by her sister, Monika Simund, and 13 nephews and nieces.
A viewing will be held at 1:30 PM, 1 March 2015 at Shrine of Remembrance. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM, March 2, 2015, at St. Josephs, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The family wishes to convey their deepest thanks to Pikes Peak Hospice for their services and support through this difficult time.
