Gloria June Hilliard Modisett, age 97, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, November 8, 2024, in Colorado Springs.

Gloria was born January 28, 1927, in Haverhill, Massachusetts, to Leon and Marie Hilliard. She was raised as the youngest of four treasured girls, spending her childhood on the beaches of the East Coast.

Gloria traveled to Tokyo, Japan, with her parents where she met and married a handsome young lieutenant, Charles Berwin Modisett, in June 1952. Gloria mentioned that she thought Charlie, being from Texas, must own oil wells…despite this misconception, they lived and loved for 60 years while traveling the world with his military service. Gloria and Charlie had many friends and continued to travel and have adventures for many years after military retirement. Gloria was preceded in death by Charlie, who passed in 2012.

Gloria loved the outdoors, especially the ocean and later the mountains. She was an excellent swimmer and continued that activity until the time of her passing. She easily connected with people and enjoyed many friends – she was fun, loved to laugh, and always found the positive in people and situations. Gloria’s health until her death allowed her to walk outside daily, something she never tired of doing. When the weather kept her in, Gloria was a passionate football fan – go Broncos! She watched all games accompanied by her longtime feline companion, aptly named Peyton Manning.

Gloria was faith filled and fully trusting in the Lord Jesus. If her reward is not great, then the rest of us are in real trouble.

Gloria is survived by her four children: Sandi Palmore, Craig Modisett, Donna Stewart, and David Modisett. She always said we were a good, matched set. We are truly grateful to have been given such a loving, kind, and wise mother. Gloria also leaves a thriving group of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gloria will be inurned in the Columbarium of Faith at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. Private family services only.
