Grace FieldsGrace Lenore (Flom) Fields, age 93, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2018 in Colorado Springs, CO.  Her full time devotion to family was evident throughout her life.

Grace was born on March 6, 1925 in Mobridge, SD to Henry Gerhard Flom and Laura Christense (Hagen) Flom.  Her Flom ancestry is from the famous town of Flam, Norway.  Her Hagen ancestry is from the Akershus and Telemark regions of Norway.  She attended Rapid City Central High School, and graduated in 1943.  She studied nursing at Augustana College.

Grace married her beloved Albert John Fields on May 17, 1947 in Rapid City, SD.  She embraced the nomadic life of an Air Force wife; living in Nebraska, Texas, England, Michigan, and Colorado.  Grace was always ready to jump in the car to take a trip for a new adventure.  She loved to travel to visit friends and relatives.

Grace steadfastly ensured that her family went to the Lutheran church every Sunday so her children could learn the Christian principles that built a solid foundation for them.  She fully exemplified her saying: “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all”.  Grace never spoke a mean word about anyone.  She was selfless, kind, and honest and will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Grace learned to use a computer and the internet when she was in her early 80’s and discovered its wondrous access to knowledge.  She loved to search for her favorite songs to play.  She used the internet to research our genealogy and documented her discoveries.  We are forever thankful for her valuable efforts to annotate old photos to identify the people.

Grace was the last of our piece of the Greatest Generation.  Grace was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Albert; and all of her brothers and sisters: Marvil (Ida) Flom, Lillian (John) Engebretson, Arnold (Lucille) Flom, Ruth (Art) Lee, and Carol (Landis) Olson.

Grace is survived by all her loving children: Anita (Bruno) Contreras, Elaine (Michael) Allen, Diane (Edward Kasl) Alcorn, Donald (Sherry) Fields, and Richard (Kimberly) Fields.  She has 9 grandchildren: Laurie (David) Kallenborn, Wendy (Jody) Staples, Christy Allen, Tiffany Alcorn, Amy Alcorn, Stephanie Fields, Christopher Fields, Katherine Fields, and Erica Fields; and 6 great-grandchildren: Ellie, James, Nathan, Aaron, Kenneth, and Jacob.   She will be forever loved and missed by all.

Memorial services will be private.
