Harold E. Heffernan
February 20, 1929 – February 2, 2016

Harold E. Heffernan, age 86, passed away in peace on February 2, 2016. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for 65 years. He was a skycap for the Colorado Springs airport, and retired from the United States Army.

Harold Eugene Heffernan (known to many of us as Corky) was born on February 20, 1929 to Harold J. and Cecilia (Kurchasky) Heffernan in East Chicago, Indiana. On October 4, 1952 he married Helen Medina in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and attended St. Joseph’s Military Academy in Hays, Kansas, and graduated in 1947. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1948 where he attained the rank of 1st Sergeant. Harold served in Korea and Vietnam where he was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for valor. He was employed at the Colorado Springs airport with Huntley USA as a security inspector. He retired after 37 years in 2008.

He is survived by his loving wife, Helen; his children: Chris Heffernan, Patricia (Rick) Cheever, Pamela (Melvin) Fowler, Paula (George) Heffernan; his sister: Pat Hussey; his grandchildren: Chadd Cheever, Jamie (Yance) Gates, and Jontell (Robert) Heffernan Wilford Jr.; and his great-grandchildren: Ben and Bailey Gates.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1830 S. Corona Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80905. Inurnment will be private at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Columbarium of Roses. A reception will be held following the Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Memorials in Harold Heffernan’s name may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105.
