Harold William McCracken, of Ellicott, passed away on November 9, 2017 in Colorado Springs. Harold was born in Las Animas, Colorado on July 8, 1933 to George and Lilly McCracken.
Harold was united in marriage to Joan Smith and together they had two children: Dale (Carol), and Diane (Jack). After the death of Joan, he was united in marriage to Nadean Gookin and they had 2 children: Karen (John), and David. Along with his children, he is survived by: 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Barbara, Evangeline, and Audrey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, David McCracken; wife, Nadean McCracken; parents, George and Lilly McCracken; brother, Albert; and sisters, Virginia Seibel, and Loretta Davis.
After he served the U.S. Army in Korea, he returned home and began his career as a heavy equipment operator in Pueblo and then in Colorado Springs. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union #9. He worked for several different companies until his retirement in 1995.
He eventually moved his family to the Ellicott area. His parents were farmers and ranchers, and Harold was around animals his entire life. He enjoyed his home near Ellicott, Colorado, where he always had horses and ponies for all the kids to ride, and numerous farm animals for them to play with. He was a regular at the Calhan Auction and area farm and estate sales.
Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. Burial will follow the service in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
