Harriet King, 75, a long time resident of Colorado Springs, was released from Alzheimer’s disease Sunday, December 23, 2012. She was in her home of 51 years surrounded by her family when she was united with her Heavenly Father.
She was born February 6, 1937 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Jack and Minnie Nienoord and resided in Hollandale, Minnesota. On July 11, 1955 she married Roy King her husband of 57 years and they moved to Colorado Springs where she was a loving wife and mother of their three children. In 1979 Harriet worked side by side with her husband to start a successful grounds maintenance business which they ran together for 21 years until their retirement. They wintered in South Padre Island for 17 years where they were active members of the Island Baptist Church. Harriet also volunteered at the United Methodist Church food bank and garage sale and ran the meal program for the Beach Reach Spring Break Ministry for many years.
Harriet loved and expertly cared for her family. She enjoyed camping, traveling the world with her husband, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, working outside, and caring for her grand dogs. Harriet was the epitome of a servants’ heart. She was nurturing, caring and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her friendly personality and loving acts of kindness will be missed by so many.
