Heberto Javier “Marty” Martinez, 77, of Colorado Springs, passed away at his residence on May 24, 2015 surrounded by his family. Marty was born on September 16, 1937 in Laredo, Texas to the late Teodoro and Adelfa (Garza) Martinez. Upon entering Vallejo’s Restaurant one day, he met Lydia Vallejo. The two were later married on September 28, 1968.
Marty proudly served our country in the United States Air Force for 20 years. His service took him to Saudi Arabia, Spain, Thailand and Japan among other locations. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked at Ampex in Colorado Springs for twelve years.
During his spare time, Marty enjoyed: photography, bowling league and spending time with his family and friends. He was always emailing his military friends and attending Air Force reunions. Marty also attended reunions in his hometown of Laredo, Texas, where he was known as “Beto.”
Marty is survived by his loving wife, Lydia; son, Phillip B. Vallejo and his wife, Diane; grandchildren: Phillip N. Vallejo and Stephanie V. Logan and her husband, Eli. He is also survived by three great grandchildren: Jorey Vallejo and Quinn and Gabriela Logan. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carlos.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2015 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard. A Rosary service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 22 West Kiowa Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. Interment and military honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
