Helen Hazel Walker
May 2, 1937 – November 5, 2016
Helen passed away peacefully during an afternoon nap. She was 79.
Helen was born in La Junta, Colorado, moving to Colorado Springs with her family in 1955.
She joined the Army in 1958, working in the clerical field. After re-enlisting in 1961, Helen cross-trained into the Transportation field where she spent most of her enlistment in Germany. In 1964, Helen was honorably discharged from the Army at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Helen then stayed in New Jersey until 1976 when she returned to Colorado Springs.
Helen retired from Civil Service where she last worked in the Joint Personal Property Shipping Office (JPPSO).
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Helen Walker; and her sisters, Virginia Smith and Carol Walker. She is survived by her brother, Donald Walker (Linda); one niece, Catherine Martinez (George); two nephews, Jay Smith and Cameron Walker; three great-nephews, Robert Martinez (Darlene), Adam Smith and David Martinez; a great-great-niece, Adriana Martinez; and two great-great-nephews, Damian and Urijah Martinez.
Scattering of Helen’s ashes will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Rose Garden II, Monday, November 21, 2016 @ 3:00 pm.
