Helgi Pungert Oaks, age 78, departed this life on August 2, 2016 with her beloved husband by her side.

Helgi worked as a bookkeeper and a food and beverage manager in a hotel in the Denver area for many years.

Born on December 24, 1937 in Tallin, Estonia, Helgi fled this war torn country with her mother and spent her early childhood in Germany. Her father was lost in the war and was never found. She immigrated to the US in 1948 with her mother and eventually became a citizen of the United States of America. This became one of her proudest accomplishments.

After the passing of her mother, Helgi, at the age of 13, was then raised by her loving and generous adoptive parents Paul and Helene Lehtpuu. Helgi grew up and attended schools in both Englewood and Aurora, CO. In October of 1966, she married Charles Oaks, and so began the most beautiful love story ever told. Helgi was preceded in death by her mother, Leida Pungert Gravitis and her adoptive parents, Paul and Helene Lehtpuu.

She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Charles Oaks (Woodland Park); her sister-in-law, Cathy Whigham (Colorado Springs); her brother-in-law, Jim (Neaty) Oaks (Colorado Springs); nieces, Shar (Ken) Jordan; Sue (John) Amerman; Angie (Bob) Abernathy; Krista (Eric) Wolf; nephew, Dave (Jill) Whigham; 5 grandnieces; 4 grandnephews and a host of friends who meant the world to her and vice versa.
