Henry Lawton France
Henry Lawton France, 76, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and formerly of Cabell County, West Virginia, died in a Colorado Springs, Colorado hospital on June 6, 2014. Henry was born on March 20, 1938, the son of the late Lawton France and Ruby Dean France. He is survived by one sister, Linda (Ted) France Ray; two nephews, Terry and Teddy Ray; a great niece, Camille Ray; and a great nephew, Benjamin Ray, all of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by one uncle, Frank Dean; two aunts, Betty Dean Napier and Dot Dean Stiltner, all of Wayne, West Virginia. He also leaves behind one special cousin, Keith Adkins, and numerous cousins on both sides of the family, friends and former colleagues.
Henry was a graduate of Barboursville High School, Marshall University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Ohio State University Master’s in Science, and University of Kentucky with a degree in Library Science. He taught science for several years in Cabell County, West Virginia at Barboursville Jr. High School. He also served as librarian in the Long Island, New York school system.
Henry’s interests were varied…he loved reading, the theater, classical music, travel, photography, politics, and all of the sciences. But most of all, he loved picnics in the great outdoors and family gatherings.
Henry will be sorely missed by his surviving family members and friends. A celebration of Henry’s life will be held on Sunday, June 22, at the Lavalette Woman’s Club, Lavalette, West Virginia, at 2:00 p.m.
