Henry Ramos, age 83, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs and formerly of Florence, Colorado passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at a local care center. He was a retired Director of the Training School for the Laborers’ International Union of North America. He had been with the union since 1955 and the local union building bears his name. He was also a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Genaro Ramos was born on September 19, 1928 in Zacatecas, Mexico to the late Manuel and Antonia (Flores) Ramos. He was a 1946 graduate of Florence High School. He married Emma Marie Sarmiento on May 6, 1947 in Raton, New Mexico.
He enjoyed tennis, crossword puzzles, fishing, woodworking and his faithful dog: “Madison.” He will be best remembered for his work ethic and his devotion to his family.
Henry is survived by his wife: Emma of Colorado Springs; his sons: Manuel (wife, Florence) Ramos of Denver; Michael Ramos of Mesa, Arizona and Richard Ramos of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by his sister: Josephine Gonzales of Florence, six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Monday, July 30, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Funeral Services are planned for 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 31 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. A reception will then be held at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 S. Union Boulevard, Colorado Springs.
