Hugh John Bennett, 68, died at his home in Colorado Springs on November 23, 2011 after a brief illness.
Mr. Bennett was born on August 6, 1943 in Colorado Springs to John F. and Edna Mae Bennett and was predeceased by them: Mrs. Bennett in 1972 and Mr. Bennett in 2010. He was a lifetime resident Colorado Springs. Mr. Bennett graduated from Colorado Springs High School. He then served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam in 1965 and 1966. He completed a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Colorado and later a Master’s degree in Social Work at Denver University. Mr. Bennett was employed by the El Paso County Department of Human Services for over thirty-five years, ultimately as a supervisor for the Adult Protection Division. He was recognized for his effective work as well as the dedication he showed his clients, coworkers and friends. He had a personal passion for literature and music, especially opera.
He is survived by his brother Gael F. Bennett of Colorado Springs and the many others who loved him.
Hugh Bennett will be remembered for his kind nature, loyalty and integrity, as well as his intellect and wit. Services will be held at the All Souls Unitarian Church at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14th and contributions in Mr. Bennett’s memory can be made to Opera Colorado.
