Imogene Phelps, 86, passed away on March 4, 2021 at her home surrounded by loved ones.  She was a resident of Widefield, Colorado for 51 years and was formerly a military wife traveling the country with her husband and children.  She was an accountant and personnel director at ALCO Discount Store and later worked in the kitchen at Fountain Ft. Carson High School where she became close to both teachers and students.

Imogene was born on December 30, 1934 to Floyd and Thelma (Cheek) Stephens in Toccoa, GA and moved to Baltimore, MD at the age of 9.  On October 14, 1953 she married Dock Phelps in Lawton, OK.  She and Dock were married for 31 years before his passing in 1985.  Imogene later married Laurence Daugherty in Colorado Springs, CO and they were together for 14 years prior to his passing in 2007.

Imogene was fond of reading and doing the daily crossword puzzle.  She enjoyed playing cards and games and a trip to Cripple Creek or Las Vegas was always a treat.  Vacations to scenic spots on the globe, camping in Colorado or visiting family were always on the calendar as family was her greatest joy!  She was always cooking something delicious and anyone coming to Gram’s would find a fresh pot of coffee and something sweet to eat.  During the holidays her home smelled of fresh baked goodies and the best fudge on the planet.  Anyone she met was made to feel like family and friends often became just that.  Cheers and shouts of frustration could be heard coming from her home any Sunday as everyone gathered to watch her beloved Broncos play. She was a beautiful woman who looked forward to her weekly hair and monthly manicure/pedicure appointments with her youngest daughter Cindy.

She is survived by her children: Wanda Abramson, Dock (Lynn) Phelps, Lisa Rubick and Cindy Phelps; her sibling: Annette Hall; her adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents: Floyd and Thelma (Cheek) Stephens; her siblings: Jack, Maureen, MaryBeth, Harold, Delores and Linda; her husbands: Dock Phelps and Laurence Daugherty; and her beloved son: W. Michael Phelps.

A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday, March 8, 2021 at the Shrine of Remembrance at 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910.  A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the same location.  A reception will be held following the funeral service on Tuesday at 2:30 pm at the VFW located at 753 S. Santa Fe Avenue, Fountain, CO 80817.
