Inez C. Williams, 80, longtime resident of Colorado Springs, passed away on March 1, 2017. She was born April 26, 1936, to Raymond H. and Violet F. Wiekhorst (Edelman) in Potter, Nebraska. She had very fond memories of being raised on her family wheat farm and helping with farm animals. After graduating from Potter High School in 1954, she completed RN training at West Nebraska General Hospital in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where she met her husband, Harvey Williams. They married August 9, 1958.
Harvey’s military service brought them to Colorado Springs in 1958, where she was hired at Memorial Hospital as a Charge Nurse. She worked in the only original wing remaining at Memorial Hospital today. In 1968, she went to work at CSHP, formerly Colorado Springs Medical Center, on Nevada Avenue, as a Pediatric Nurse for Doctors Kanas and Corrigan until her retirement in December 1998. Inez loved her work as a Pediatric Nurse; she was very well known and adored among her colleagues and patients.
Inez was incredible, she managed to work, have dinner on the table, keep an immaculate yard, garden, and house, raise two children, help with three grandchildren, and still manage to find time to enjoy her hobbies. Her hobbies included sewing, needlework, quilting, card making, gardening, and baking cookies, especially her famous chocolate chip cookies. She was very active in her church and helped make a quilt a week for the needy. She had a soft spot for kitties and helping others. She will be dearly missed and will forever have a special place in many hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Raymond and Violet Wiekhorst; brother, Terrell Wiekhorst; husband, Harvey Williams; son-in-law, Carson Stone; and great-granddaughter, Zoey McMullen. She is survived by her children: Carrol Stone and Paul Williams; grandchildren: Melody McMullen, Christina Williams, and Blaine Williams; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Wiekhorst.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017, with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 1318 North Circle Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
