James Edward Hiett, loving husband, devoted father, proud grandpa (Warm Belly) and great grandpa, unexpectedly passed away in Colorado Springs, Colorado on October 17, 2014.

Ed was born on August 30, 1936 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Coy Washington (CW) Hiett and DeVona Rogers. He came to Colorado in 1957 where he met his wife, Joyce, and they began their extended family. “Eddie” began an apprenticeship in 1958 at the Local 58 as a steam/pipe fitter where he happily mentored fellow pipefitters and made many lifelong friends. He retired from the job he loved as a journeyman in 2001.

Ed is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce Ann (Potter) Hiett; 7 children: Chuck, Lisa, Don, Lori, Melody, Randy and Matthew; siblings: Betty, Martha, Don, Howard and Kathy; 13 grandkids; and 7 seven great-grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ed joyfully served as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, along with his wife, in several congregations in Colorado and Arizona starting in 1970.

Ed really treasured every moment and every member of his family. Ed created his own muzzle loaders and handcrafted his own knives. Ed also loved gardening and appreciated a beautiful well-manicured lawn. He loved trying new restaurants with Joyce and meeting weekly with their friends at McDonalds for coffee and apple pie. Ed never forgot a face or part of his life. He could tell stories with such detail that it felt like you were there. He loved cuddling with the grand babies. His genuine laughter, contagious smile and blue eyes always made you feel welcome.

One of the things that will be greatly missed will be the smell of coffee in the morning and the sound of shuffling of cards as he prepared to play his morning solitaire.

The memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 720 Crestline Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80916.

Reception immediately following the service will be held at the Quail Hill Mobile Home Community – 5102 Galley Rd., Colorado Springs, CO 80915.

This Obituary Has 2 Condolences

  1. I miss you every day.. you are the reason I try to stay strong when I find myself unable to go on. You taught me to be a man and I know your here with me but I wish I could talk to you once in a while… I can see you winking at me now.. but maybe I was dreaming.

  2. I was so sorry to hear about Dad. My mom always spoke highly of him. He had been on my mind lately, so I decided to get on the internet and found this. I hope everyone is doing well after his passing. Thank you for mentioning Chuck and me. That means a lot.
