Jim Smith, a Colorado Springs resident since 1979, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was a retired Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force.
Jim was born on November 3, 1933 in Beaufort, North Carolina to Grady and Sunnie (Powell) Smith. He joined the Air Force after high school and was eventually stationed in Hof, Germany, where he met his wife of 52 years. Jim and Elfriede Schaller were married on February 11, 1960. After 26 years serving his country around the world, he retired and settled with his family in Colorado Springs. Jim was a member of Village Seven Presbyterian Church since 1982. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid outdoorsman.
Jim is survived by his wife; his children: Tom Smith and Ina (husband Tim) Meyer; five grandchildren: Brett, Alexander, Jeremiah, Leah, and Natalie; and 15 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred; and his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Village Seven Presbyterian Church, 4050 Nonchalant Circle South. A reception will follow the services and will also be held at the church.
