JAMES H. YOHN
February 24, 1920 – March 14, 2012
James H. Yohn, 92, died March 14, 2012 at Penrose Hospital.
James Harold Yohn was born February 24, 1920 in Stockton, Illinois, the son of Frank and Elfa Yohn. He worked for and retired from the United States Civil Service as a mechanical engineer at Air Defense Command, later called Aerospace Defense Command, and was a veteran of World War II.
Jim enjoyed hiking and climbed all of Colorado’s 14’ers after turning 70. He also loved to ski and qualified to race in NASTAR until he was 88. He was a member of the Blazer Ski Club and the Silver Streaks Ski Club. He competed in the Rocky Mountain Senior Winter Games for more than 20 years up to age 84. Jim had a passion for elk and deer hunting, camping, bicycling, and even went paragliding at the age of 83. He ran the Pikes Peak Marathon several times during his lifetime. He loved to stay in shape.
Jim was always engaged in home projects. He built a patio port and a full basement in his house. He installed a solar heating system and dug his own water well. Later in life, he was an avid gardener.
Surviving are his children, Thomas (Jennifer) Yohn of Denver and Karen (Ramiro) ArgĂĽello of Colorado Springs; and grandchildren: Matthew, Kendra, and Erica of Colorado Springs, and Dennis, Andrew, Joe and Sean of Denver. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Dro) Yohn, of Bern, Indiana.
A Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2012 with Funeral Services to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Private inurnment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
