Jeanette R. Peters, 90, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015, in Colorado Springs, CO. Jeanette was born in Honolulu, HI on February 13, 1924, to Augusta (Robello) and Louis Gonsalves.

She survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. She then entered the civil service to assist in the war effort. She remained a dedicated government employee until her retirement 37 years later.

She was preceded in death by husband, John H. Peters; her parents; and four brothers. Jeanette is survived by sister, Agnes Brittos of 29 Palms, CA; son, Rodney and Anna Lopez of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Deborah and Charles Smithdeal of Treasure Island, FL; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Glen) Silvers, Shamein (Kipp) Averett and Rachel (Phong) Nguyen; and six great grandchildren.

Jeanette and Pete moved to Colorado Springs from Raton, NM, in 1998. They became active members of the community. Jeanette loved to bowl and belonged to several leagues. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society.

A Mass celebrating her life will be held at 10am Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 4925 N. Carefree Circle, where Jeanette was a member.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pikes Peak Humane Society.
