Chief Master Sergeant Jeff Wakeford

Jeff D. Wakeford, age 70, a resident of Colorado Springs for 30 years, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2012 in the presence of his loving family. He served 23 years in the United States Air Force, was a Vietnam Veteran, and a mechanical engineer. He moved to Colorado Springs in 1983 to devote his second career to Memorial Hospital as a biomedical engineer and was the Administrator of Facilities Management.
Jeffrey Dean Wakeford was born on March 28, 1942 in Pontiac, Michigan to the late Floyd B. and Onita (Aldridge) Wakeford. He married Mary Jane Needham on June 9, 1962 in Fort Worth, Texas. Jeff was an avid sailor, enjoying many years of sailing the Chesapeake Bay, the Pacific Northwest, the San Diego Coast, and the Catalina Islands with his devoted bride. He also enjoyed camping and making custom golf clubs. He especially loved his time spent with his grandchildren and created many family memories on the beaches of San Diego. Jeff had a special way of touching many hearts and will be forever missed.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Jane Wakeford; his devoted daughter, Tracy Burgeson; son-in-law, Paul Burgeson; and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Madeline Burgeson.
Memorial services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Inurnment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jeff’s name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Colorado Springs Rescue Mission, or the Salvation Army.
