Jerry A. Bills peacefully completed his life’s journey on February 5, 2018.
Jerry was born October 17, 1936 in Topeka, Kansas to Albert Mark (A.M.) Bills and Elizabeth (Betty) Bills. He attended Colorado Springs High School, the University of Denver, and later earned an MBA in California and a Ph.D. in Minnesota. He served during the Korean war in the USAF as a chaplain’s assistant. He possessed a deep commitment to the community of Colorado Springs serving as the Chairman of the El Paso County Young Republicans and President of the Colorado Springs Civic Theatre. He was also a member of the downtown Rotary Club, the El Paso Club, and the Garden of the Gods Club. In his later years he was a devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church. An extremely hard-working person, he served as President and CEO of several different savings and loan associations before opening his own tax preparation and resume business.
Jerry was an avid traveler visiting many places via air as a single-engine pilot, aboard his cabin cruiser, or with his favorite Bluebird RV. He preferred visiting warm places, especially Hawaii, and was an avid scuba diver. He loved good food and scoured the places he visited for the best restaurants. While a very private, and often curmudgeonly person, he always had time to help out those in need and was a supportive and loving father. His heart and home were always open to many rescue dogs, and he is excited to see them all once again at the Rainbow bridge.
Jerry is preceded in death by his mother; father; younger brother, Robert Bills; and his first wife, Kathryn Bills. He is survived by his four children; David (Rose), Ashley (Tom), Michael (Kathie), and Edward (Paula); and three grandsons: Ethan, Trevor, and Lincoln.
A memorial service will be held on March 9, 2018 at 10:00 am at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jerry’s name to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region or Faith Lutheran Church, 315 Security Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80911.
