Joan Marie Brownell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 23, 2017, in Colorado Springs.
She was born May 10, 1930, in Penokee, Kansas, to Joseph and Rita Nicholson and married Henry “Hank” Brownell (deceased) on June 13, 1948, in Fruita, Colorado. They were married 67 years.
Joan and her husband owned Eastgate Vacuum and Sewing Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1990. She was a dedicated homemaker and retired to focus on family needs.
She attended Vista Grande Baptist Church in Colorado Springs, and enjoyed reading and gardening.
Joan is survived by her daughters: Linda (Dean) Skaret, Glenda (Jay) Kouba, and Sherri Hice; 4 grandchildren: Brian Skaret, Jamie Hodges, Melanie Osterloh, and Tiffany Hice, Jonathan Hice (deceased); 8 great-grandchildren: Wiley, Malia, and Ohlsson Skaret; Gregory, Madison, and Jackson Hodges; Noah and Ariana Osterloh; a sister, Ada Brownell; and two brothers: Rev. Everette Nicholson and Dr. Joe Nicholson.
Visitation will be 1:00-1:40 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2017, at Vista Grande Baptist Church, 5680 Stetson Hills Boulevard. Funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
