Joan Martinez, 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, with her family by her side. She was and is beloved would be an understatement. Joan had spent most of her life caring for her husband and raising their 8 children.
Joan’s most loved quality was her sweet and beautiful spirit. What made her happy was having her kids come over and sit at the table and just talk and laugh while she was cooking something on the stove. They would all say she made the best food, and that’s because she made it with love. Soon her grandkids were doing the same and this just thrilled her. She enjoyed taking walks at the nature center with her grandkids and loved having family picnics at Metcalf Park; for she loved them all so very much.
We are sure that same gentle and peaceful spirit has carried her on to Heaven. And while the family has already begun working through this tremendous loss, we are also very comforted knowing she will reunite with her loving husband Robert, her son Lonnie, and her daughter Renee Vigil.
She is survived by her 4 daughters: Veronica Cannon, Julie Meyer (Johnny), Pam Martinez, Mandy Martinez; and 2 sons, Bobby Martinez (Ruby) and Duane Martinez; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910. Inurnment will follow at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Gate of Heaven.

3 Aug 2024My dearest condolences to my cousins. Tia joan was one special lady. She always had an open heart to all of us. My favorite memories are of her and my mom (Tivie) sitting and sharing their stories and love for each other. She is already dearly missed. Yet she left us with a full heart filled with love.
