Joe D. Henderson, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on November 27, 2023.
Joe was born in Coldwater, Kansas on February 7, 1930, to James Ray Henderson and Marguerite L. (Simpson) Henderson.
He graduated from High School in Salida, Colorado in 1948. He then attended Junior College in Pratt, Kansas and graduated in 1950.
Joe served in the U.S. Navy from March 1951 until March 1955. After completing his service, he joined the U.S. Air Force Fire Department in Colorado Springs, Colorado in May 1955. He retired as Assistant Fire Chief in May, 1984.
Joe married Arlene J. (Fry) Henderson on March 29, 1958. They enjoyed just over 65 years of marriage. They raised and are survived by 4 children: Jolene, Joe, Donna, and Diane. Family was his priority – all enjoy special memories of camping. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Nelson; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Arlene J. Henderson (November 10, 2023); his parents; and 6 siblings.
After Joe’s retirement, he and Arlene enjoyed lots of traveling and wintering in Arizona. His favorite activities included playing pickle ball, golfing, playing cards and games.
No services will be held. He is entombed at the Shrine of Remembrance.
