John D. Lamerson, age 92 years, passed away on October 17, 2024. He was a resident of Colorado Springs since 1969. He moved around quite a bit prior to that, as he proudly served in the military for 22 years.
John was born on November 24, 1931 to Lawrence Vane Lamerson and Grace May (Dickeson) Lamerson in Mancelona, Michigan.
John loved music and loved to dance until he no longer could, but still would tap his hands and feet to the rhythm of a good Johnny Cash song! He was a fabulous artist and a tremendous carpenter. He was a Vietnam Veteran who authored a book, “The Phantom of Ben Het.” John was a co-founder of the Veteran’s Day Parade and enjoyed attending every year for 24 years. He was instrumental in founding the Crawford House in Colorado Springs and the Cheyenne Mountain VFW Post 3917. He proudly served on the board of the Pikes Peak Veteran’s Council and was a former president of the Retired Enlisted Association. John served in the Michigan National Guard from 1949 – 1950, served in the Air Force from 1950 – 1954, and then served and retired from the Army, 1955 – 1972, when he retired as a Master Sergeant E-8 in Colorado Springs.
The love of John’s life, Mavis Ann (Coe) Lamerson, preceded him in death. He was a wonderful father and grandfather who was loved very much.
Memorials in John’s name may be made to Goodwill of Colorado, 1460 Garden of the Gods Rd., Colorado Springs, CO 80907.
NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN AND ALWAYS LOVED

20 Oct 2024I was honored to be able to work with John on the Colorado Springs Veterans Day Parade Board for 20 years! He was an inspiration and loved the parade and worked tirelessly to make the parade a special event for our veterans. I remember his smile, which was infectious, and his sense of humor. More especially his love of our country, his humbleness and dedication to our veterans. We miss you John! God blesses you!

21 Oct 2024So sorry to hear of John D’s passing. We lived far apart as adults but we spent a lot of time together growing up. We were able to keep in tough with once a month phone calls. I will miss hearing his voice.
