John E. Heindel, 89, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021. He was a resident of Colorado Springs since 1967. Born September 5, 1931, in Wray, Colorado, to Theodore A. Heindel and Dora May Upchurch Heindel.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Dianne Heindel Waltz, and his beloved daughter, Andrea Heindel Hagans. He is survived by his cherished wife of fifty-three years, Betty Lou Heindel, his children, Kathy Bonino, Marty Cruzan (Roger), Bill Heindel (Carole), Jody Sailer, and son-in-law Carl, as well has his 18 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren, and dear friend, Bill Wilson.
John was always proud of his grandfather who was a pioneer homesteader in 1887 and who settled in Yuma County.
After graduating from Wray High School and attending CSU-Fort Collins, John worked at General Motors – Chevrolet as a District Manager. He retired from Weberg’s Furniture after thirty years of service. John enjoyed hiking in the Colorado mountains, woodworking, and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 30, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance in Colorado Springs with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Pikes Peak Hospice.
