Born in Cape Town, South Africa to Daff (nee Wooster) originally from London, England and Heine Gort from Friesland, Holland. John was raised and educated in South Africa and Kenya, graduated from the General Botha Naval Academy in 1960, and began his career as a general accountant in the construction business in Cape Town. An extremely popular leading actor and gifted singer, he performed in many musical productions in South Africa. Arriving in America with his young family in 1977, he joined his sister, Molly, and her family in Utah, as well as his parents, all of whom had immigrated. John relocated in 1979 to Colorado Springs, worked for Guthrie Homes, then became part owner of Perfect Printer Printing Centers, and in 1986 was proud to gain U.S. citizenship. John brought joy to many audiences in the Colorado Springs area with his charisma and extraordinary talents as a singer and actor. In 1984 John married Cecile Wood, who relinquishes him with profound sadness to the loving arms of the Lord. He will be deeply missed by his children, Juli Morgan, Caryn Smith, and Wendy Gort; grandchildren, Ava and Annabelle Morgan, Madalyn Smith, Charlotte Gort; sister Molly Wilhelm and many nieces and nephews in Utah; and stepchildren Jennifer, Vanessa and Christopher Wood. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, favorite brother and uncle – all who treasured this special, kind and loving man feel an immeasurable and infinite loss.
