John M. Ventimiglia

John M. Ventimiglia, a resident of Colorado Springs for 66 years, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014. He was a retired builder and developer, and a United States Army Veteran.

John was born on August 29, 1930 to Francisco and Madeline (Scola) Ventimiglia in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He married Dorothy Byrd Winters on October 22, 1949 in Arvada, Colorado.

In his younger years he enjoyed playing racketball. He also loved fishing, sailing, and poety-writing. He was a self-made man and was a very generous person. As an active member of the community he was Past President of the Home Builder’s Association and Past President of Rocky Mountain Sertoma. He was a member of Medical Ministry International which provides eye care for the poor in Columbia and Peru in South America. He also provided a home for the Charity organizations of Crossfire Ministries and the Colorado Springs Youth for Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his children: Mark Ventimiglia, Matt Ventimiglia, and Holly McMahon (Chris); 4 grandchildren: Rachel Ventimiglia (Eddie), Danielle Ventimiglia (Clay), Erin McMahon, and Evan McMahon; 3 great-grandchildren: Saffron Estrada, Russell Estrada, and Sage Lousignont; his brothers: Sam (Mary), and Phil (Virginia); and his sisters: Grace, Vinnie, and Joanne (Joe). He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ventimiglia; his brother, Frank; and his mother and father.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, 219 East Bijou Street.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Crossfire Ministries or to the Colorado Springs Youth for Christ.
