John Martin Nusskern
September 4, 1924 ~ October 9, 2012
John Nusskern, age 87, passed away peacefully in his home on October 9, 2012. John was a Colorado Springs, Colorado resident for the past four years. He spent is life as a teacher, coach, mentor and EEO Officer.
John Martin Nusskern was born September 4, 1924 to Frederich and Amanda (DeMuth) Nusskern in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. John served his country during WWII with the 15thh Army Air Force in the 464th Bomb Squadron in Italy and North Africa. He married his loving wife Joan Kress on August 14, 1949 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
A 1950 Graduate of the University of Notre Dame, John Graduated Cum Laude and received his MBA at the University of Pittsburgh. He was privileged to play the position of offensive lineman for Coach Frank Leahy and was a member of the team for four consecutive National Championship Titles 1946-1949.
His passion for teaching and coaching encompassed elementary to college level. He also enjoyed sports and coached football, track, wrestling and many more. He was a big fan and rooted for Notre Dame and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved the outdoors and traveling throughout the world, as well as spending time with his family.
John is survived by his children: Mark Nusskern of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Susan Rankin of Grand Junction, Colorado Tamara (Paul) Larghe of Houston, Texas, five grandchildren: Annie Rucker, Mary Rankin, Samantha, John and Sara Larghe. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan and son Kevin.
A memorial mass will be held in Johns honor 1:00 pm Monday October 15, 2012 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church 4925 N. Carefree Circle Colorado Springs, CO 80917. Interment will be private at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

John was very active in helping with the Mesa Mavericks football team 1980-1985 in helping to equip the training/weight room facility and as team statistician.
