John S. Soares

John Soares, age 86, died peacefully at his home on July 14, 2016.
John was born to Joseph and Maria Soares on July 10, 1930 in Macal do Chao, Portugal. At the age of 4, John and his parents emigrated to the United States and resided in Ludlow, Massachusetts. John graduated from Ludlow High School. John joined the Air Force in 1949. He served until 1953 attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant.
While working in Minot, ND for RCA as a radar site engineer, he attended Minot State Teachers’ College full- time. He remained with the Radio Corporation of America for 14 years before joining the Department of the Air Force as a civilian employee in April, 1967. He came to Colorado Springs in November, 1977 and was assigned to Peterson AFB, Co. He would serve as the lead program analyst for the Joint Surveillance System and later became involved in systems engineering projects. On the occasion of his retirement from the Department of the Air Force in January of 1996, John joined Computer Technology Associates here in Colorado Springs and served with the company until 2003.
John was an avid golfer, and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling with his wife of 64 years, Mary.
John is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, David; his daughter, Katherine and her husband Leon; and two grandsons. Memorial Mass, 2 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 4925 North Carefree Circle. Inurnment, Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Pope St. John Paul II Memorial Columbarium, 1730 E. Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs.
