SFC John W. Guthrie (United States Army, Retired)
John Guthrie, age 83, passed away March 26, 2014 in Aurora, Colorado with his family by his side. John was born May 4, 1930 to his parents, John and IV, in Yazoo City, Mississippi.
He was a Korean War and Vietnam Veteran and was stationed in Germany, Panama and in many locations stateside. He was a Lifetime Member of TREA and a member of Sunrise United Methodist Church. He greatly enjoyed woodworking.
Following his retirement from the Army in 1969, John worked for the Sears Roebuck Company in a number of different positions. He retired from Sears in 1985 after 16 years.
John married Olga Schell on March 26, 1955 in Augsburg, Germany.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Olga Guthrie; two sons: John (Pat) and James (Patsy) Guthrie; daughter, Ginger (Jim) Thorpe; brother, Fred Guthrie; and four sisters: Bobbie Edmondson, Norma Cary, Sue Womack, and Carol Papenfuss.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Inurnment will be private.
