Joyce Ann Kenney, loving mother, grandmother, and friend passed away at her home in Colorado Springs on September 1, 2020. A memorial mass is scheduled for 10:30 on 19, September at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Joyce is survived by her two beloved children and their families: daughter Sheilagh and her husband Matt Carpenter and their children Allyson & Caleb Plumlee, Jack, Brock, and Mairin and her son Tim Kenney and his wife Patricia and their children Samantha & Chris and (great-grandson) Beau Butler, Emily and Joshua Kastendieck, Shelby and Abel Lannen and Biniyam.
Gram was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1936 and loved to travel. She had great stories of teaching in Scotland and in elementary and middle schools all over the Midwest. After retiring from teaching in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, Joyce moved to Coronado, California to be near her children and grandchildren and loved working at the Hotel Del Coronado in the toy store, Geppettos.
Joyce moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2005 to be closer to the growing number of grandchildren living in Colorado. She loved seeing her grandchildren perform in elementary, junior high and high school choir and band performances and sharing her love of classical music.
Joyce made wonderful friends in a Silver Sneakers class at the local YMCA. Her favorite memories included sitting at the YCMA with a cup of coffee, playing canasta, trips to Alaska and Hawaii, and having lunch with her friends at Guadalajara’s.
An avid shopper, she would always tell her family and grandchildren about her successful shopping trips to the local King Soopers or other nearby stores and her ‘good deals’.
When Joyce was not with family, friends or shopping, she was probably working a puzzle or knitting another blanket for her family members. Her family will cherish those blankets and the precious memories they have of her.
