Joyce was born in Chicago, Illinois, to George Frederick August Kerstein and Erna Irene Kerstein (Tetlow). Joyce grew up in northwestern Chicago. She graduated from Garvy Elementary School and Taft High School. Joyce graduated from Stout State University in Menominee, Wisconsin and worked for the University as a purchasing agent.
Joyce had a lifelong hobby of knitting. She knit by hand and with a knitting machine. She was in knitting groups sharing and learning knitting skills wherever she was. Joyce enjoyed traveling by plane, boat or road. Joyce lived the Wisconsin life, enjoying the outdoors, fishing and hunting deer until she retired in/to Colorado Springs where she was a member of Black Forest Lutheran Church for 10 years.
Joyce is survived by her brother George August Kerstein (wife, Norine). Joyce was preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Black Forest Lutheran Church, January 23, 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce’s name may be made to Black Forest Lutheran Church, 12455 Black Forest Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80908.
