Judith M. “Judy” Oyer

Judith Maureen Oyer, a Colorado Springs resident since 1978, passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 after a courageous five year battle with lung cancer. She was a retired school teacher for Academy District 20.

Judy was born on March 25, 1941 in Flanagan, Illinois to Alvin and Lillie (Rupp) Ackerman. She grew up in Illinois and graduated from Illinois State University in Bloomington. She married the love of her life, Robert Keith “Bob” Oyer, on August 1, 1964 in Flanagan, Illinois.

She was a member of CAHPERD and served on the organization’s Colorado State Board for several years. She was also a devoted member of Grace Bible Church. Judy loved music and was involved in various chorale groups, handbell choirs, and vocal choirs over the years.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; her children: Kurt Oyer of Omaha, Nebraska, and Kristen (husband Todd) Kercher of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; two sisters: Kathryn (husband Dwain) Mosier of Flanagan, Illinois, and Pauline “Jo” (husband Dick) Miller of Washington, Illinois; three granddaughters: Camryn, McKenna, and Emerson Kercher; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

A closed casket visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A memorial service will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Grace Bible Church, 5075 Flintridge Drive and will be followed by a reception. Entombment will be at Shrine of Remembrance Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the Oyer family requests that memorial contributions be made in Judy’s memory to the Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation, Grace Bible Church, or the Music Evangelism Foundation.
