Julie was born in Rhodelia, Kentucky to Junius and Ethel Mattingly on December 9, 1925. After graduating high school Julie went to work and ended up as an executive secretary at the United Steel Workers in Indianapolis, Indiana where she met her husband, Jim. They were married April 15, 1961 and had 51 happy years together before he preceded her in death on October 21, 2012. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1962. Julie was known as the “fun” aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Julie enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, travel, and volunteering at the Westside Cares Food Bank. Julie always was happy to volunteer at school events, church and any place a helping hand was needed. She truly embodied the spirit of giving and generosity. There was always a place at the dining room table for one more guest and anyone who didn’t have a place to share holidays.

Julie was the youngest of 13 children and was preceded in death by her parents, Junius and Ethel Mattingly; brothers and sisters: Frances Mattingly, Mary Aline Mattingly, Byron Mattingly, Carrie Campbell, Eunice Heavrin, Rupert Mattingly, Howard Mattingly, John (Jack) Mattingly, Wilbur (Wib) Mattingly and Richard (Dick) Mattingly.

Julie is survived by her sister, Jeanette; son, Jim (Jack Ward) Doolittle; daughter, Mariclare (Stefan Johnston) Hoffmann; and two grandchildren: Chris and Mandy Hoffmann.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Optum Hospice and Brookdale Memory Care of Colorado Springs for taking such great care of mom in the last months of her life.
