Karen Cash Huber
April 6, 1948 – August 1, 2018

Karen Cash Huber passed away August 1, 2018 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

She was born on April 6, 1948, Burbank, California, to Mark T. Cash and Wilma J. (Davenport) Cash.

Karen is survived by her husband, Benedict “Ben” Huber Jr.; children: Tonya R. Merkle and David A. Huber; grandchildren: Stephan M. Huber, William D. Huber, Samuel J. Huber, Marissa B. Cimino; and one great-grandchild on the way.

Her education included a BA in Classical Languages from the University of Colorado in 1969; an MA in American History from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh in 1974; a PhD in Ancient History from Oklahoma State University in 1979.

She worked in District 11 as a teacher at Coronado, Doherty, and Wasson High Schools, retiring after 25 years of service.

She enjoyed writing a book on Col. John Chivington and the Sand Creek Massacre. She loved making gourd art and traveling to her residences in Colorado Springs, Santa Fe, New Mexico and Redlands, California.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Boulevard. A reception will follow at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 South Union Boulevard. Private interment will take place at the United States Air Force Academy Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Karen’s name may be made to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.
